Generic Estimation Procedures for Orientation with Minimum and Redundant Information

  • Chapter
Calibration and Orientation of Cameras in Computer Vision

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Information Sciences ((SSINF,volume 34))

Summary

Orientation of cameras with minimum or redundant information is the first step in 3D-scene analysis. The difficulty of this task lies in the lack of generic and robust procedures for geometric reasoning, calibration and especially orientation The paper collects available tools from statistics, especially for the diagnosis of data and design and for coping with outliers using robust estimation techniques. It presents a generic strategy for data analysis on the contest of orientation procedures which may be extended towards self-calibration.
