Abstract

As distributed virtual worlds are a special case of distributed systems, it is reasonable to exploit features and services of general architectures for distributed systems or at least learn from the knowledge and expertise gained during their design. Only when there is a need for extra functionality for the DVW must existing services be extended or new solutions developed.
