Practical Guidelines for Broadband UVB, Narrowband UVB, UVA-1 Phototherapy, and PUVA Photochemotherapy — A Proposal

  • Chapter
Dermatological Phototherapy and Photodiagnostic Methods

Abstract

This is an overview of the guidelines for phototherapy with ultraviolet (UV) radiation and with psoralen photochemotherapy (PUVA) in the treatment of skin diseases as currently used in the institutions of the authors. There are, of course, other protocols in use that are effective. However, the guidelines presented here have proven safe and successful over many years of phototherapeutic practice and may aim at minimizing potential short-term and long-term side effects by optimizing therapeutic strategies.
