Abstract
The ideal goal of rehabilitation after ankle ligament injury is to restore (1) range of motion, (2) sensori-motor control, and (3) muscle strength to a pre-injury level. In the following chapter, normal requirements for each of these functions will be discussed and causes for restrictions or deficits will be addressed. The function of the foot/ankle complex during gait will be assessed and the kinematics during running presented. The scientific basis behind relevant rehabilitation modalities will be reviewed, and programs for acute and long-term ankle rehabilitation will be introduced.
