Abstract

The study of kinetic processes in gases requires a detailed knowledge of the internal states of atoms and molecules and of the associated energetic and spectroscopic constants. Such knowledge is essential to understand the basic behaviour of atoms and molecules in non-equilibrium conditions. Much attention has been given to finding and examining these parameters, and many works on the subject are available in the literature, for example, under the form of reviews and monographs [1–9]. For this reason, this chapter only presents some basic information needed for the study of kinetic processes in atmospheric atomic and molecular species.
