Elementary Excitations in Magnetically Ordered Materials

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Solid-State Sciences ((SSSOL,volume 128))

Abstract

In magnetically ordered materials, various types of elementary excitations such as excitons and magnons exist. The magnetic interaction between these elementary excitations enables them to combine with one another, forming new and more complex excitations such as exciton-magnon transitions, which are observed in the visible region. In this chapter, the following subjects are described: (1) relationship between the propagation of elementary excitation and the spin structure in the magnetically ordered state, (2) various kinds of cooperative excitations induced by magnetic interaction, (3) unique elementary excitations such as the magnetic soliton caused by spin frustration.
