Genetic Manipulation and Transplantation of Male Germ Cells

In order to generate transgenic animals, a commonly used technique is the microinjection of linearized recombinant DNA into the male pronucleus of fertilized eggs. Derived embryos are then implanted into the oviduct of pseudopregnant females [1 I. However, other methods have been developed in different laboratories during the last two decades. Some have used retroviral approaches, while others have taken advantage of in vitro manipulations of embryonic stem cells. More recently, some intensive work has been pursued in the field of animal cloning.
