Abstract

For some time, the European banking system has been involved in a major and increasingly intense process of change. Many European banks are at a critical point in their development as a result of a series of important factors. Deregulation, de brokerage and the integration within the European community of banking and stock activities are significant features determining the structure of European financial systems. The banking systems of the former COMECON countries are also undergoing considerable change with the progressive adoption of financial structures more in line with a market economy. These changes lead to greater competition in both the traditional and innovative sectors of the entire financial market.
