Summary

In this chapter we report some results from the EUROPORT project EUROPENGER-FEDEM and a porting project on a Cray T3E, and discuss the opportunities and problems involved in the parallelization of large industrial simulation codes in mechanical engineering. We give a brief presentation of the FEDEM code (Finite Element Dynamics in Elastic Mechanisms), which is a multi-disciplinary, multibody simulation package for mechanical systems, and discuss the parallelization work. Real-world test problems have been provided by three end-users of the FEDEM code; we discuss some results from the benchmarking.
