Abstract
The Face Foundation (Forests Absorbing Carbon dioxide Emission) was set up in the Netherlands in 1990, on the initiative of the Dutch Electricity Generating Board (Sep), with the remit to fix (sequester) some of the CO2 released into the atmosphere when electricity is generated in the Netherlands. Sep has an active policy of reducing this emission. Currently, about 90 % of the electricity in the Netherlands is generated by burning fossil fuel, but it will take several decades to convert to an electricity generating system that emits appreciably less CO2. This explains Sep’s decision to sequester some of the CO2 emission in biomass.
