Part of the book series: Perspectives in Mathematical Logic ((PML))

Abstract

In this section we show that for some fragments and extensions of first-order logic there are corresponding variants of the Ehrenfeucht-Fraïssé method. First we deal with second-order logic, mainly with monadic second-order logic, then with infinitary languages, and finally with restrictions of these infinitary languages and of first-order language to fragments consisting of formulas which only contain a fixed finite number of variables.
