Abstract
Numerous aggravating factors and possible etiological agents have been proposed as triggers for atopic eczema lesions. The importance of dietary factors as emerged in earlier clinical practice has been confirmed in recent years with data derived from more accurate observations and controlled experiments. From a qualitative point of view the diet can be adapted to eliminate foods which are thought or proven to play a pathogenic role in inducing the dermatitis or to correct with supplementary factors possible or supposed metabolic defects. Dietary treatment is suggested in atopic eczema either for diagnostic reasons to establish the presence of food allergies, for therapy, or as a preventative measure in the newborn at risk.
