Abstract

The actual frequency of proctological diseases occurring during pregnancy is poorly documented in the literature. It is estimated [7, 11] that 85% of pri-mi- or multiparae with proctological diseases developed them during or after their first pregnancy. The appearance of proctological diseases in women is related to the menstrual cycle and gravidity. Several physiopathological mechanisms have been suggested:

  • The anatomical proximity of the genital organs to the anorectum

  • The presence of estrogen receptors in the hemorrhoidal plexuses [13]

  • Anatomical and physiological modifications induced by gravidity
