Abstract
Rectovaginal fistulas are located above the dentate line and should therefore be distinguished from anovaginal fistulas. These lesions are rare and account for less than 5% of all anorectal fistulas. They result in very severe and distressing vaginal symptoms which vary according the underlying disease: fecal soiling and smell, discharge, vaginitis, passage of flatus and even feces especially during diarrhea, discharge of mucus or blood.
