Abstract
In Chapters 2 to 7 we have discussed at some length the conceptualization of evolution and time as applied to economic activity. In particular, in Chapter 7 we stressed the long — run interaction of the economy and the environment in determining the nature of economic activity, and suggested that natural resource shortages were an important stimulus to the emergence of novelty.
