Abstract

In this chapter we shall discuss techniques which improve the discrete solution by locally defined discretisations. The general framework is given by the ‘local defect correction’ in § 15.1. A global discretisation of the continuous problem is completely avoided by the ‘domain decomposition methods’ studied in § 15.3.
