Abstract
Preliminary studies of bacterial structure revealed, that these organisms were susceptible to damage during the polymerization of the acrylic embedding matrix, when a cure temperature of 60° C was used (1). Utilizing the principle that the internal stresses responsible for the damage could be relieved by maintaining the matrix in as fluid a condition as possible to the termination of the polymerization reaction (2, 3), the temperature of the curing oven was raised until, at a temperature of 95° C, polymerization damage of the bacteria could not be detected with an optical microscope.
