Abstract
Decacyclene is obtained by heating acenaphthene (I) with sulphur1 or with lead dioxide.2 In the latter case fluorocyclene (III) is formed as a by-product which also gives decacyclene by thermal decomposition.3 Heating of acenaphthylene or polyacenaphthylene also yields decacyclene.4 Dinapthylenethiophene (V) when fused with alkali and acenaphthene or acenaphthylene gives decacyclene.5
