Abstract
As the subject of training programmes, Desktop Publishing can be described as the appropriate integral processing of different PC-applications for stationary printing. Because of its connection to personal computers this process is going to be considered as common standard of production. That includes the heterogeneous character of the training’s target groups: We have to deal with professional stationary printing (in industry) as well as with the use by layers (in offices a.e.). DTP-training measures in offices go hand in hand with structural measures and applications of new technologies (office-communication, group organisation, integral shop floor arrangement a.o.). Training programmes for professional use in the printing industry accentuate the transfer of technological knowledge, whereas programmes for DTP-application by layers demand, furthermore, basics of typographical and formal know how. This statement proposes a structural model for a complete understanding of the complex ‘DTP and training’, in that it intends to develop a practical, systematically differentiated structure of all aspects of the DTP-training’ s aims. Besides that, it meets the needs of the different users. This model distinguishes between the competence of the system, the competence of DTP-software and the creative competence. As far as the institutions in charge of the training programmes are concerned, I make a distinction between an external training organised as modular class-modell and emphasizing technological aspects, and a shop floor training, which is constructed as covering training and stresses the process of production.
