Zusammenfassung
Eine statistische Datenbank soll statistische Angaben — etwa Häufigkeiten, Prozentzahlen, Mittelwerte — über Personengruppen oder Gruppen von Organisationen zugänglich machen, ohne dabei Information über erkennbare Einzelpersonen oder Organisationen preiszugeben. Dieses doppelte Ziel ist nicht leicht zu erreichen. In den letzten Jahren tauchten immer neue Techniken auf, die erlauben, aus prima vista unschuldig wirkenden statistischen Angaben den Inhalt einzelner Datensätze, teils sogar der ganzen Datenbank zu rekonstruieren [Dal.77, DeS 79, DeS 80, DeJ 81, Mic 80, Rei 78, Sch 75, Sch 80, SDD 79]. Parallel dazu liefen theoretische Untersuchungen der Möglichkeit, eine statistische Datenbank zu attackieren, bei der die Schnittmengen zwischen den Datensatzteilmengen, die aufeinanderfolgende Anfragen verwenden dürfen, auf wenige Datensätze beschränkt bleiben [DJL 79]. Aber selbst diese extreme, für die Praxis nicht akzeptable Einschränkung half wenig; auch ein solches System kann mit recht geringem Aufwand unterlaufen werden.
