Abstract
A specimen of CSF taken in the lumbar area and unaltered by diseases of the central nervous system normally contains two types of cells, i.e., lymphocytic and monocytic forms. These designations are used in recognition of the great similarity between these cells and the corresponding cells of the blood. These are apparently reserve cells of the CSF, which are maintained at a constant level. The ratio of lymphocytes to monocytes is about 70 to 30 [114, 123, 142].
