Zusammenfassung
Durch die Verknappung von Energie in jüngster Zeit wurde auch die verstärkte Nutzbarmachung von Erdwärme als Beitrag zur Energieversorgung in Betracht gezogen. Die geothermische Energie ist im allgemeinen recht gleichmäßig auf der Erde verteilt. Die geringe Wirtschaftlichkeit dieser Energie erlaubt die gegenwärtige Nutzung allerdings nur an bevorzugten Stellen, wo in vulkanisch jungen Gebieten heißer Wasserdampf aus so geringen Teufen gefördert werden kann, daß man ihn ökonomisch in die leicht transportable elektrische Energie umwandeln kann. Mit steigenden Energiekosten können nicht nur kleinere, sondern auch immer tiefer liegende Wärmereservoire erschlossen und ausgebeutet werden, so daß die Anforderungen, kleine und auch tiefliegende Wärmeanomalien an der Oberfläche zu erkennen, stark ansteigen. Geochemische, geologische und geophysikalische Methoden werden zur Prospektion auf Wärmereservoire angewendet. Dabei wird eine grobe Übersicht häufig von der Luft aus vorgenommen, z.B. mit Infrarot-aufnahmen der Erdoberfläche. Die Auswahl von anomalen Temperaturverteilungen wird dann an der Oberfläche mittels verschiedener Prospektionsmethoden getroffen. In den ausgewählten Gebieten wird mit Hilfe geophysikalischer Methoden die Struktur des Untergrundes untersucht,und zusammen mit Testbohrungen kann dann schließlich die Größe und das Potential der "Wärmelagerstätte" abgeschätzt werden.
