Zusammenfassung

In der Veterinärmedizin sind Gestagene überall dort anwendbar,

  1. 1.

    wo ein absolutes oder relatives Gestagendefizit die gewünschte Fortpflanzungsfunktion in Frage stellt (Substitutionstherapie);

  2. 2.

    wo ruhende, partiell insuffiziente oder unterschwellige Sexualfunktionen durch die positive Feedback-Wirkung kleiner Gestagendosen am hypothalamohypophysären Sexualzentrum stimuliert werden können;

  3. 3.

    wo Impulsunterbrechungen, d. h. temporäre zentrale Ruhigstellung mit höher dosierten Gestagenen — durch negative Feedback-Wirkungen — entgleist gewesene Funktionskreise erfahrungsgemäß wieder einzuregeln vermögen. Dabei unterstützt die mit dem Abklingen der Gestagenwirkung wieder positiv werdende Feedback-Aktion das Wieder-Ingangkommen regelgerechter Fortpflanzungsfunktionen, wobei mit Hilfe des „Rebound-Phänomens“ höhere Leistungen der Fortpflanzungsfunktionen (sowohl germinativer wie neuroendokriner Art) erzielt werden können [56, 70].
