Summary
A non-linear stress-strain relationship is used instead of Boussinesq’s in conjunction with a standard k-ε model. This is found to produce vastly improved predictions for a wide variety of two- and three-dimensional separated flows which suggests that shortcomings in the performance of two- equation models have been wrongly attributed in the past to the form of the length-scale equation. Problems remain, mainly in predicting separation from a circular cylinder, and proposals for improvements are tested.
