Zusammenfassung
Die Nervenzellen oder Neurone sind die morphologisch und funktionell selbständigen Grundeinheiten des Nervensystems, von denen das menschliche Gehirn etwa 2,5 × 1010 (25 Milliarden) besitzt. Die Neurone sind untereinander über spezielle Verbindungen, die Synapsen, in Kontakt, deren Zahl 200bis 2000mal größer ist als die Zahl der Nervenzellen selbst.
