Zusammenfassung

Das Genus Bacillus enthält große grampositive Stäbe, die kettenförmig gelagert sind. Sie bilden Sporen und sind streng aerob. Die meisten Angehörigen dieses Genus sind saprophytäre Keime, die im Boden, im Wasser, in der Luft und auf den Pflanzen vorkommen, so wie B. cereus und B. subtilis. Solche Saprophyten rufen beim Menschen nur selten Erkrankungen hervor (z. B. Meningitis oder Endokarditis). B. anthracis ist der wichtigste pathogene Vertreter dieses Genus.
