Abstract

The results of the 2022 census were not known at the time this essentials was created, but the Federal Statistical Office had already reported that more than 84 million people have been living in Germany since the summer of 2022. This roughly rounded up means

  • 8 million people in the million cities Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne,

  • 13 million in cities with populations from 200,000 to under 1,000,000,

  • 28.5 million in cities with populations from 20,000 to under 200,000 and

  • 34.5 million in rural areas.
