Zusammenfassung
Space Traffic Management – verstanden als Verfahren, Normen und Regeln, die eine sichere und nachhaltige Nutzung des Weltraums angesichts einer stetig wachsenden Zahl von Weltraumobjekten und -akteuren langfristig gewährleisten sollen – ist zu einer Schlüsselherausforderung für die internationale Weltraumpolitik geworden. Entwicklungen wie wachsende privatwirtschaftliche Weltraumaktivitäten, der Aufbau sogenannter Megakonstellationen und die Verbreitung von Weltraumschrott unterstreichen die Notwendigkeit internationaler Anstrengungen zur Gewährleistung des sicheren Betriebs von Weltrauminfrastrukturen, von denen moderne Gesellschaften heute in hohem Maße abhängig sind. Der Artikel stellt die regulative, normative und technische Dimension von Space Traffic Management sowie aktuelle politische Ansätze in den Vereinigten Staaten und in der Europäischen Union dar. Abschließend wird auf bereits existierende Praktiken zur Koordinierung des Weltraumverkehrs eingegangen, bei denen zivile und militärische Akteure zentrale Rollen einnehmen.
