This chapter concludes the thesis by summarizing our research in Section 7.1, presenting an overview of our research contributions in Section 7.2, and discussing ideas for future research in Section 7.3.

Jinha estimated that the number of journal articles surpassed 50 million in 2009 [252]. Other studies consistently found that the annual growth rate of journal articles is about 3% [58], [237, p. 5]. By extrapolation, we estimate that 67 million journal articles existed at the end of 2019 and journals currently publish about 2 million new articles per year. This number underestimates the true number of publications as it does not consider, e.g., conferences papers, books, or preprints.
