Innovationskultur und Risikokultur – Gegenpole oder Partner in gemeinsamer Mission?

Zusammenfassung

Universalbanken befinden sich seit Jahren in einem Spannungsgeflecht aus schrumpfenden Margen, zunehmenden Regulierungsanforderungen und einem innovationsgetriebenen Wettbewerbsumfeld. Bislang wirkt der Anforderungsmix der Bankenregulierung, bestehend aus weichen Faktoren wie einer Risikokultur und quantitativen Kapitalkennzahlen, hemmend auf innovative Ansätze von Banken. Doch auch fernab von externen Einflüssen gibt es innerhalb der Banken Showstopper, die eine innovative Weiterentwicklung des Geschäftsmodells blockieren. Universalbanken sind daher in der Pflicht, ihren Umgang mit Risiken neu zu überdenken. Unterstützend wirken soll dabei eine Risikokultur, die wie ein Klebstoff das Verhalten aller Bankmitarbeitenden in Bezug auf Risiken vereint. Neben dieser internen Herausforderung muss sich die Kreditwirtschaft in einem umkämpften Markt behaupten. Die neuen Wettbewerber, in der Regel FinTechs, können häufig unberührt von aufsichtsrechtlichen Regelungen agieren und haben das Streben nach Innovation fest in ihrer Unternehmens-DNA verankert. Für Universalbanken ergibt sich daraus ein Spannungsgeflecht aus risikobewusstem Handeln und einem stetig größer werdenden Innovationsdruck. Da Innovationen zwangsläufig auch Risiken bedingen, führt dies unweigerlich zu der Frage, ob Risiko- und Innovationskultur einen Gegensatz bilden oder sich vielleicht sogar gegenseitig begünstigen. Zur Beantwortung dieser Frage werden zunächst die für den Bankensektor relevanten Dimensionen von Innovations- und Risikokultur dargestellt werden. Im Anschluss werden diese gegenübergestellt und ihre Ausprägungen miteinander verglichen. Die aufgedeckten Überschneidungen und Synergieeffekte können Universalbanken nutzen, um eine gemeinsame kulturelle Grundlage für die zukünftige Ausrichtung ihrer Geschäftsmodelle zu schaffen.
