Zusammenfassung
Es gibt seit etlichen Jahren eine anschwellende politische Reaktion gegen nahezu alles, was mit der Globalisierung in Verbindung gebracht werden kann, namentlich der Verlust an Arbeitsplätzen, deren wachsend prekärer Charakter, die Zunahme der Ungleichverteilung, steigende legale und irreguläre Migration, die Aushöhlung der Demokratie und kulturelle Überfremdung. Damit verbunden sind in der popularen (und akademischen) Perzeption ein Anstieg gesellschaftlicher Polarisierung, die Ausdünnung der Mittelschichten und eine wachsende Distanz zwischen Bürgern und ihren (als elitär abgehoben geltenden) Repräsentanten, einhergehend mit einem Vertrauensverlust in die politischen Institutionen.
