Zusammenfassung
Der Klimawandel wird die Umweltbedingungen für mitteleuropäische Baumarten erheblich beeinflussen. Dies wird starke Auswirkungen auf den Bedarf für geeignetes Saatgut haben. Das vorliegende Kapitel untersucht den Zusammenhang von Mastereignissen und Forstpflanzennachfrage gemeinsam mit anderen für die Forst- und Holzwirtschaft wichtigen Prädiktoren wie Holzpreisen, Nutzung und makroökonomischen Entwicklungen. In zwei Szenarien wird die Entwicklung des Holzangebots aus dem österreichischen Wald, mögliche Trends in der Versorgung mit Brennholz, Industrierundholz und Sägerundholz simuliert und der zukünftige Forstpflanzenbedarf nach sieben Hauptbaumarten abgeschätzt.

Das Akronym MPI-ESM-LR/RCA beschreibt ein umfassendes Erdsystemmodell (Max-Planck-Institute – Earth System Model, Low Resolution/Rossby Centre of Atmospheric Models) das kompartmentell aus einem generellen atmosphärischen Zirkulationsmodell, einem Vegetationsmodell, einem Ozeanzirkulationsmodell und einem biogeochemischen Ozeanmodell zusammengesetzt ist. Es wurde anhand des gekoppelten Modellvergleichsprojekts (Coupled model intercomparison project 5) in eine Familie von für europäische Klimaprojektionen genutzten Modellen im Rahmen der Euro-Cordex Initiative ausgewählt. Im fünften Sachstandsbericht des zwischenstaatlichen Ausschusses für Klimaänderungen (IPCC) wurden Klimaprojektionen anhand Repräsentativer Konzentrationspfade definiert, der den Strahlungsantrieb der Erdatmosphäre (in W/m2) beschreibt. Hier wurde ein Szenario für moderaten Klimawandel (RCP 4.5) und eines für ausgeprägten Klimawandel (RCP 8.5) ausgewählt. Die aktuellen globalen Emissionen bewegen sich entlang des RCP 8,5 Pfades. Der RCP 4,5 Pfad würde mit der Umsetzung des Paris Agreements erreicht.
