Zusammenfassung
Das Vereinigte Königreich (UK), in dem die Energieproduktion bis in die späten 1990er-Jahre von Kohle dominiert wurde, steigt als erste Industrienation aus der Kohle aus. Entscheidend beigetragen zum Bedeutungsrückgang der Kohle hat eine effizient gestaltete Energie- und Klimapolitik mit einem gesetzlich verankerten CO2-Reduktionsziel sowie einem nationalen CO2-Preissystem. Durch die gezielte Förderung erneuerbarer Energien zählt das UK heute sogar zu den Vorreitern im Bereich der Offshore-Windenergie (vgl. Tab. 1 u. Abb. 1).
