Abstract
Services are central to the global economy and are increasingly becoming essential for fostering sustainable growth. In 2017, services accounted for approximately 63 percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP) and 74 percent of the GDP in high-income countries. Primarily driven by the demand for services related to information and communication technology (ICT), even the number of exports of commercial services is constantly accelerating and has already outpaced the export of merchandise trade in terms of annual growth rate.
