Abstract
The expression of ‘foodscapes’ is strongly dependent on societal frameworks. These in turn are strongly linked to the ideological/political character of society. The impact of different political or social systems on material spaces has been discussed in numerous publications (for instance at: Kirchhoff, 2019; Kirchhoff and Trepl 2001; Kühne 2011, 2015; Kühne et al., 2015; Vicenzotti, 2011), insofar we will briefly present the results in the following—focused on ‘foodscapes’. In doing so, we follow the order of historical appearance of the political idea systems and start with considerations on the liberal state, then present essential aspects of a socialist society, and then lead over to the welfare state as it is characteristic for Western European societies, which can be understood as situated between the poles of the liberal and the socialist society (for instance: Fassmann, 2009).
