The construction industry touches the lives of virtually everyone on a daily basis and occupies a fundamental position in national economies. In Europe, it generates approximately 12% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs about 8% of the labour force. The building industry is regarded as the driver of economic growth, and periods of prosperity are usually associated with high levels of construction activity. Unfortunately, the opposite applies in periods of recession.
