Abstract

Chapter 4 covers the approach and the reasons for the empirical analysis, which was derived theoretically and backed up with qualitative data. First, the research questions of this work and the derived hypotheses from Section 2.4 are presented in an overview and the research model is illustrated to recall the efforts made so far. The reasoning behind a paper–pencil-questionnaire to test the derived hypotheses and the questionnaires’ structure are described.

Notes

  1. 1.

Motivation, self-efficacy and self-esteem are motivational factors.

  2. 2.

For the calculation of this effect size, the following formula was used: \(d = \frac{{m_{B} - m_{A} }}{\sigma }\), with m referring to the respective mean and their standard deviation (Cohen, 1988, p. 27).

  3. 3.

Motivation, self-efficacy and self-esteem are motivational factors.

  4. 4.

The German grading system is applied for this question (see Figure 4.4).
