Zusammenfassung

Die Rückkehr der Religion in den öffentlichen, politischen Raum seit den späten 1970er-Jahren hat auch in der politikwissenschaftlichen Disziplin der Internationalen Beziehungen zu einer intensiveren Beschäftigung mit Religion und religiösen Akteuren geführt. Der Beitrag zeichnet die theoretischen Entwicklungen in diesem Feld nach, beleuchtet insbesondere die neuen postsäkularen Ansätze, und gibt dann Einblick in zwei empirische Felder der aktuellen Forschung: den Zusammenhang von Religion, Gewalt und Frieden sowie die Rolle von religiösen Akteuren im Humanitarismus.
