The new working worlds have a great influence on all working people in this year 2020. It has an impact on mobility and where and how we work today and in the future.
In order to make home office work more attractive than before, further optimization of processes is necessary. The number of business trips will also decrease, making the form of communication for video conferencing more important. This article presents the connections of the new working worlds in the interplay of office and home office in connection with the inner mental fitness on the one hand and the effects of stress on the brain on the other hand.
By clarifying the terms inner mental fitness, resilience and stress we build a bridge to the effects of negative thoughts in our brain and our performance at work, whether in home office or office.
A study on digital stress in Germany shows that the most frequent stress factors cited by the employees surveyed are performance monitoring, the unreliability of digital technologies and media and the impairment of privacy, which the respondents also perceive as major triggering components of digital stress.
A manager like Carl M. therefore has to find a healthy level of performance monitoring in the interplay between trust and control and separation from private life for himself and his employees. Furthermore, the provision of the necessary digital technology and media must be ensured in order to avoid or at least reduce negativism as far as possible. Optimism on the other hand is food for a positive mindset.
Furthermore, everyone is responsible for their own lifestyle. Each person needs sufficient oxygen, relaxation, exercise and a balanced, healthy diet and ensures a balanced serotonin balance. A deficiency would create a basis for negative actions and thus negative thoughts. In order to interrupt negative thoughts, the stop method was described, which helps to walk through life more constructively.
These new forms of work in remote mode entail many imponderables and uncertainties, and quickly negative thoughts are involved with the described consequences for health and brain performance. The upcoming challenges of these new forms of work in combination of office and home office are accompanied by necessary behavioural changes of those involved, which are possible through new thinking; but this will happen at different speed and not everyone will be able or willing to follow.
