Zusammenfassung
Die rasche Verbreitung des Internets in den meisten westlichen Ländern ging mit verschiedenen Phänomenen des ungleichen Zugangs zum Internet und der unterschiedlichen Nutzung des Internet einher. Der Beitrag befasst sich im ersten Teil mit der Entwicklung der wichtigsten theoretischen Perspektiven und empirischen Befunde für digitale Unterschiede auf Mikroebene wie Klüfte bezüglich Bildung, Alter, Geschlecht oder ethnischer Herkunft. Der zweite Teil fokussiert auf die politökonomische Makro-Perspektive der globalen Akteure, Strategien und Auswirkungen des Plattform- und Überwachungskapitalismus im digitalen Strukturwandel der Gesellschaft. Abschließend werden politische Implikationen diskutiert und Empfehlungen formuliert.
