Zusammenfassung

Weltkultur ist ein vor allem in den Sozialwissenschaften gebrauchtes Konzept, das die Einheit der Menschheit bzw. den globalen Zusammenhang menschlicher Gesellschaften bzw. Kulturen auf den Begriff bringt. Das impliziert das Menschenbild eines durch Interaktion und Vernetzung charakterisierten Menschen: homo socialis. In beschreibender Hinsicht geht es bei Ansätzen zur Weltkultur darum, was Menschen aller Kulturen der Welt bei aller Vielfalt und Fragmentierung verbindet (Globalität) und welche Befunde es für pankulturelle Muster (Universalien) gibt. In politischer Hinsicht geht es um Fragen, wie die Menschheit angesichts der Gefahr weltweiter Konflikte und des irreversiblen anthropogenen Wandels der Geosphäre (Anthropozän) zusammenwachsen kann, ohne dass lokale Lebensorientierungen außen vor bleiben (Kosmopolitismus, Planetarität). Über Universalien des Menschenbildes, die mehr oder weniger in allen Kulturen gemeinsam sind, wissen wir empirisch noch wenig.
