Agile neue Geschäftsmodelle treten in den Markt ein. Gleichzeitig können etablierte Unternehmen ihre Produktion schlanker organisieren – und verändern mit verbesserten Kostenstrukturen den Wettbewerb. Für Professor Porter von der Harvard Universität könnte das Internet der Dinge die größte Umwälzung der Produktion seit der Industriellen Revolution bewirken.
Digitales Nervensystem
Die Wirkung des Internet der Dinge entsteht aus dem Einsatz von „intelligenten, vernetzten Produkten“. Diese sind mit Sensoren ausgestattet, die den eigenen Zustand und ihre Umgebung messen – so entsteht ein digitales Nervensystem. Auf diese Messungen kann automatisiert reagiert werden, damit lassen sich Prozesse genauer steuern und völlig neue Angebote erstellen.
Neue Geschäftsmodelle
Neuartige Nutzenangebote ermöglichen neuartige Geschäftsmodelle: Produkte bieten neue digitale Dienste wie Diagnose (Überwachung Gesundheit), Steuerung (Senkung Energieverbrauch) oder Datenerhebung (freie Parkplätze). Produkte können als Service angeboten werden, indem ihre Nutzung gemessen und abgerechnet wird.
Auswirkungen auf bestehende Geschäftsmodelle
Den größten Einfluss hat das Internet der Dinge auf Prozesse in Unternehmen, da es jeden Schritt der Wertschöpfungskette verändern kann: Genauere Steuerung von Abläufen kann die Qualität steigern. Gleichzeitig können Kosten gesenkt werden, indem Prozesse weiter automatisiert und Ausfallzeiten verringert werden. Zusätzlich schaffen kontinuierliche automatisierte Messungen die Datenbasis für tief gehende Analysen und weitere Optimierungen.
Die Regeln des Wettbewerbs ändern sich
Frühe Markteinsteiger können Wettbewerbsvorteile gewinnen, da sie durch die Vernetzung direktes Markt-Feedback über die Nutzung ihrer Angebote erhalten. Damit schaffen sie eine Datensammlung, die von späteren Einsteigern kaum noch zu kopieren ist. Weitere Markteintrittsbarrieren lassen sich durch stärkere Kundenbindung und Netzwerkeffekte aufbauen. Dies kann in einigen Branchen zu stärkerer Konsolidierung führen.
