Zusammenfassung
Die wirtschaftlichen Entwicklungen rohstoffreicher Länder fallen bisweilen sehr unterschiedlich aus. Folgt man der wissenschaftlichen Literatur, steht den segensreichen Rohstofferträgen eine Reihe unerwünschter Nebenwirkungen gegenüber. So kann es im Zuge von Rohstoffexporten zu einer Währungsaufwertung kommen, unter der die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit bedeutender Exportsektoren leidet. Ist überdies das institutionelle Umfeld durch schwache Gerichte, undemokratische Regierungen und ein hohes Maß an Korruption gekennzeichnet, besteht eine erhöhte Gefahr, dass es zu aufreibenden Verteilungskämpfen bis hin zu gewaltsamen Konflikten um die Rohstofferträge kommt. Von der Regierung beansprucht, werden diese Erträge zudem nicht selten verschwendet oder für den Machterhalt missbraucht. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden die bekanntesten Erklärungsmuster von Rohstoffflüchen gegenübergestellt und mit Beispielen aus rohstoffreichen Ländern unterfüttert.
