Dieses Kapitel stellt eine begriffliche und analytische Auseinandersetzung mit dem Forschungsgegenstand „Familie“ dar. Hierbei soll zunächst der soziologische Blick auf Familie im Allgemeinen beschrieben und die Wechselwirkung von Gesellschaft und Familie erörtert werden. Im Weiteren wird das Phänomen der Kleinfamilie, welches uns heute als normative soziale Institution begegnet, diskutiert.
