Abstract
Chapter 7.3 outlined how empowerment has been related to mHealth research in only a limited number of studies (Anshari & Almunawar, 2015), and frequently a theoretical perspective on empowerment is missing, with the concept left unexplained (Bradway et al., 2015; Cumming et al., 2014). As shown in the previous chapters, psychological empowerment has been investigated in relation to mHealth research in a small number of studies (Camerini & Schulz, 2012; Lamprinos et al., 2016; Mantwill et al., 2015), and social support (behavioral empowerment) has been studied in relation to eHealth or mHealth use without specifically referring to empowerment (Barak, Boniel-Nissim, & Suler, 2008; Litchman et al., 2018; Maki & O’Mally, 2018; Oh & Lee, 2012; van Uden-Kraan et al., 2009).
