Abstract
Studies on mHealth use usually provide an empirical operationalization of mHealth “use” (e.g., frequency or intensity of mHealth use in self-administered surveys), but do not provide a theoretical understanding of “use” (e.g., in Humble et al., 2016). There is hardly any definition of “use”, assuming that “use” is inherently understandable. According to Wirth, von Pape, and Karnowski (2008), “numerous [mobile communication] studies have taken up the tradition of quantitative adoption research in explaining the adoption of new mobile technologies” (p. 594), and based on the Diffusion of Innovation Paradigm (Rogers, 2003).
