Abstract
First results from Study 2 face-to-face interviews implied a relationship between empowerment and diabetes app use, and showed that empowerment was likely an antecedent of diabetes app use. However, due to the exploratory character of Study 2 and the outlined study limitations (Chapter 13.4), further research was required that added statistical analysis for result confirmation. Therefore, based on Study 2 results, Study 3 further investigated if empowerment could be considered a relevant antecedent of diabetes app use in addition to other influencing technology adoption and self-management factors, and aimed at (1) testing if the diabetes app user and non-user typology results from Study 2 in Table 18 and in Table 7 in the Appendix could be statistically confirmed with a different sample to be able to answer RQ 2 on (non-) user differences (Table 4), (2) testing the hypotheses about specific relationships between variables derived from Study 2 (H 1 to H 15, Table 19), as well as (3) testing the more general hypotheses derived from theory (H I to H III, Table 4).
