Zusammenfassung
The selection of Croatia and Slovenia as country cases provides an additional comparative perspective to the study of local individual representation. While the two countries are fairly similar regarding the past and present characteristics of local government and overall socio-political development, a crucial distinction concerns the electoral system applied in the local council election. Croatian councilors are elected using a closed-list proportional electoral system, which advances the role of local political groups in the selection and coordination of local councilors and their activities.
