Zusammenfassung
Das Broadening und Deepening des Markenkonzeptes beschreibt einerseits die Ausweitung des Markenkonzeptes auf nicht-kommerzielle und soziale Institutionen und andererseits die Vertiefung von Marken in gesellschaftliche Aspekte der Markenführung. Das Broadening der Markenpolitik hat zur Konsequenz, dass sich politische Institutionen, Parteien und Nichtregierungsorganisationen zunehmend als Marken begreifen und mit umfassender Anwendung des Marketingmixes ihre interne Aufstellung und ihre Präsenz in der Öffentlichkeit organisieren.
Die Vertiefung des Markenkonzeptes beschreibt die Verschränkung der Markenfunktionen mit allen internen und externen Schnittstellen von Unternehmen oder Institutionen. Die stärkere gesellschaftliche Sichtbarkeit von Marken ist das Ergebnis einer gestiegenen Nachfrage der Stakeholder nach Transparenz und Verständnis von ökologischer oder sozialer Verantwortung der Unternehmen, die zu Konzepten wie CSR oder SRI geführt haben.
Vor allem in jüngerer Zeit wird die Funktion des soziopolitischen Kontextes als Echokammer für mögliche aktive Positionierungen, Haltungen und Handlungen von Marken im politischen Raum sichtbar, die im Mittelpunkt des Buches steht. Aktuelle Phänomene wie Political Consumerism, Brand Purpose und Brand Activism beschreiben eine zunehmende ethische Aufladung, Moralisierung und Politisierung von Markenangebot und -nachfrage.
Diese Trends werden mit Haltungen und empirischen Erkenntnissen in ihrer jüngeren Entwicklung dokumentiert und im Lichte der entwickelnden Literatur eingeordnet. Fallbeispiele aus der jüngeren Vergangenheit belegen einen klaren Trend, dass sich kommerzielle Marken aktiv entlang zentraler politischer Fragestellungen orientieren und nicht nur Haltungen, sondern auch Handlungen entsprechend ausrichten, bisweilen mit einem bewusst kalkulierten Risiko kurzfristiger wirtschaftlicher Sanktionen.
