Abstract

Own housing constitutes beside pensions the main asset in the average household portfolio of the European elderly. The potential this wealth reserve holds as an income source in old age has been rarely discussed. This thesis followed recent publications of housing and wealth researchers who unveil the potential of housing as a pension (e.g., Doling and Horsewood, 2011, Delfani et al., 2014, and Moscarola et al., 2015).
